Today for lesson 18's discussion of the difference between a "wedding" and a "temple marriage," and with apologies to this month's Modern Bride magazine:

Seriously though, I went through the entire magazine and there was not one, not ONE, dress that could have worked in a temple ceremony. I mean not even close. It was very eye-opening. The girls got a kick out of my altered cover so I thought I'd share.

Love it. I remember when I got engaged buying a couple of bridal magazines to celebrate and realizing that there was little to nothing in them I could use or relate to!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I may have to copy your idea when I teach this in two weeks.
ReplyDeleteI just hope you didn't show them *your* bridesmaids' dresses! That would have scared them off weddings altogether :P
ReplyDeleteTouche, Kristine. I still can't believe I made you wear that and that you're still my friend anyway. What can I say? I thought polished cotton and platter-sized sailor collars were the height of fashion. *Wince*
ReplyDeleteIt was the 80s--sailor collars may well have been the height of fashion. I certainly wouldn't have known :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant. My favorite headline is the "Missionary Opportunity" one. Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThat is great! When I got married short or cap sleeves were more prevalent than they are now. I bought my dress in Utah though so it was much easier to find one that was temple ready. I still had to wear the long sleeve undershirt to make my dress work in the temple.
ReplyDeleteI've had several friends get sealed in a regular temple dress and then change into a (modest) wedding gown for the reception. I actually kind of like that idea - being a little more understated for the ceremony itself.
FYI, the best place to look for dresses (if someone you know can sew really well) is Marfy. They actually have several modest patterns plus tons of easily altered ones. Expensive, but totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I hope you don't mind but I am absolutely stealing your idea for this lesson. My girls will get such a kick out of it.
