Just thinking... We get a lot of Google traffic from people looking for ideas and discussion about girls camp. Neither of us is involved in girls camp this year, although we've posted about it before, and then of course we have reese's amazing list of camp crafts.Would anyone out there like to be a guest blogger about girls camp for a few months? Let us know - we'd love to bring that in more. My email is bnjeans AT gmail DOT com.

I just got back from girl's camp. Living in Louisiana, we have to do it early because it gets too hot later in the summer... even with our air conditioned cabins and mess-hall.
Jenny, that is early! You may have kicked off the season. Are the girls in your area out of school? Want to tell us more? Were you a leader there? Were you involved in the planning? Can you share some highlights or lowlight?
I am the Beehive advisor in the ward, but our entire stake leadership was in our ward. We have one of the bigger wards in the stake with 10 girls... Our theme was Keepers of His Light. Being Samurai Warriors in Word and conversation, charity, spirit and faith and virtue. Our stake camp director had some great ideas. They were just not executed in the best way. It was her first time at camp and she did not have anyone with experience helping her. Although she really did not take much of the advice of those with experience. But of course, camp is always great, no matter how bumpy the road. There were a couple of girls unable to attend because they were still in school. That is going to be addressed next summer. Highlights were the skits, which we do by ward every year. The girls write their own skit and focus it around the theme. Lowlights were that the girls were allowed to have their cell-phones the first day and everyone spent their (too much) free time looking for a signal. But our camp director nipped that in the bud! The fast and testimony meeting ended up being too short, not everyone got a chance to share, and that is usually the best part of camp. We did it at night. Which is nice when you have a fireside, but it is too hot here for a fire... One thing we did before was have it first thing in the morning on Sat. The spirit is so strong and the girls leave camp with that spirit coursing through them! Also, don't ask the girls to tell about their struggles in detail unless you are prepared to hear some scary stuff. But you cannot beat camp for the best week in the world. If you make sure you take away the ipods and cell phones, and isolate the girls from the world for a short time, they are going to feel and recognize the spirit.
